Dear Friends

As you all know very well, Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake followed by huge tsunami destruction, and on top of that there is failure of nuclear power plants. Prime Minister Kan said on Sunday 13th March that Japan was facing its worst crisis since World War II. By all accounts, the disaster is now of previously unimagined proportions.

There are now more than 430,000 people housed in some 2,500 evacuation centres, mostly in schools and other public buildings. In addition, Red Cross medical teams are reporting many cases of people arriving at hospitals suffering from hypothermia and at risk of pneumonia. Many people are suffering the effects of having swallowed contaminated water during the tsunami.

As the whole country is in a shock and mourning state for the people of Fukushima and Iwate prefecture as well as other area victims, I appeal all of you to pray for them and support Japan and Japanese people in as best way as you can.
